Summary: Malt & Barley bartenders & servers ensure the best possible overall guest experience with emphasis on providing quick, efficient, and friendly customer service, engaging customers, preparing high-quality beverages, and maintaining a clean and orderly working environment.
Hours of work: Will vary. Malt & Barley is a 7-day-a-week operation. This position requires flexible availability and hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedules and hours vary depending on business requirements.
General accountabilities:
- Warmly greet customers as they enter the pub
- Seat customers in bar or restaurant if no host is working
- Provide exemplary service to customers - ensure beverages and food are delivered in a timely and friendly manner
- Maintain a clean and orderly seating area including clearing tables of all glasses and plates as appropriate, wiping tables after use, picking up food & debris from the floor, etc.
- Maintain a clean and orderly back of bar area including cleaning all galsses, wiping the bar as needed, putting glasses away, cleaning up spills and breakages as soon as they happen, etc. (bartenders only)
- Ensure bar is always fully stocked with beer, wine, liquor, and related supplies such as ice, glassware, napkins, straws, etc. (bartenders only)
- Look for bottles with low quantities and ensure you have back ups (bartenders only)
- Clean glasses, utensils, and equipment as needed
- Prepare lemons, limes, and other beverage garnishes as needed
- Accurately count and manage floats
- Accurately perform end of shift cash out
- Thoroughly perform all daily and weekly cleaning duties assigned to shift
- Interact with customers, especially those sitting alone at the bar - make it a priority to chat with them and ensure customers are enjoying themselves
- Take and manage reservations
- Answer the phone - the bartender is first in line (hosts & servers will assist when they can)
- Take and prepare takeout orders, accept payment from customers
- Ensure the server duties are being performed during the day and that the close has been done properly by the servers and kitchen in the evening
- Full and thorough execution of opening and/or closing duties - ensure you leave the entire bar area (including seating) clean, fully stocked, and ready for the next shift
- Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
Required qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of related experience in food and beverage services
- Experience with invoicing, cash, deposits, cash handling controls, and inventory control
- SmartServe certified
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with other members of the team and general public
